Neogobius melanostomus (Round goby)
Animal Fish Family: Gobiidae Classification: Prohibited
The round
goby is similar to native sculpin in appearance and ecology. They may be
found in marine, brackish, and fresh water. The goby spawns several times
a year. Once introduced the population grows quickly, taking over prime habitat
and spawning areas. They prey upon the eggs and fry of other fish, and may
have impacts on sport and commercial fishing. In areas where they have become
abundant, they have had serious impacts on sculpin populations.
