CONFERENCE CALL November 24, 1999 - 9:00 a.m. Olympia, Washington ATTENDANCE: Commission Department Kelly White, Chairman Larry Peck, Deputy Director Russ Cahill, Vice Chairman Tim Smith Don Heinicke Jim Lux Lisa Pelly Fred Shiosaki Public: Bob Tuck None Van Van Gytenbeek Commission Staff: Debbie Nelson TROPHY TROUT: The 1999 Legislature authorized the Department through SSHB 1681 to purchase up to $400,000 worth of large trout (trophy trout) from private growers this biennium to supplement existing Department hatchery trout production. The Department is anxious to move ahead with the purchase of these triploid trout to expedite planning for the spring 2000 lowland lake trout fishery. The first step is to get bids from private growers as soon as possible so the successful bidders will have enough time to grow the fish to the specified size. Commissioner Van Gytenbeek moved, seconded by Commissioner Tuck, to authorize the Department to proceed with the bidding process at up to $100,000 for the first year, then $170,000 for the second year, and award the contracts to the successful bidders (one eastside and one westside) for the trophy trout program. The Commission will determine at a later date which waters of the state are appropriate for planting of these catchable trout. The motion carried unanimously.
