Q: How do I get a hunting license and how much does it cost? A: The type of hunting license you need depends on the species you intend to hunt. For instance, if you hunt deer, you need to purchase a big game license for deer. Transport tags for big game are included in the purchase price of the license. Check out the fee schedule or call the License Division at (360) 902-2464. If you hunt multiple species, you can save money by purchasing all of your hunting privileges at the same time. You can buy your hunting license at WDFW Online Sales and Services website or at more than 600 locations throughout the state, including many sporting goods stores, convenience stores, and major sports retailers. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1972, is required to complete an approved Hunter Education class to be eligible for a hunting license. Q: Do I need a hunting license to target shoot? A: No. You do not need a hunting permit for target practice or skeet. You will, of course, have to comply with local ordinances and also have the permission of the property owner. Q: Can non-residents register for hunting draws and raffles? A: Yes. Non-residents may purchase tickets. There is no limit on the number of tickets that may be purchased; however, no refunds are granted for any raffle ticket purchases. See the Big Game Hunting Seasons and Rules regulation pamphlet for more information. Q: Do I need to wear special colored clothing when hunting in Washington? A: Yes. At least 400 square inches of fluorescent orange exterior clothing must always be worn above the waist and be visible from all sides when hunting in any area open to modern firearm deer or elk -- no matter which species of animal you are hunting. A hat, by itself, does not meet the requirement. For more information, see the current Big Game Hunting Seasons and Rules regulation pamphlet. Q: Does the Department offer any programs for Women? A: Yes. Please see Washington Outdoor Women. |
