Commonly caught by commercial trawlers.

Description: 3 dorsal fins and 2 anal fins. Chin barbell tiny when present. Lower jaw projects slightly beyond upper jaw. Olive-green to brown, often with faint blotching or mottling above; silvery on side; whitish below. 1st anal fin pale but other fins dusky. Young have 2-3 narrow yellowish stripes along side.

Size: To 91 cm (3 feet)

Range/Habitat: Coasts of North Pacific, from Japan to Bering Sea and to Carmel, California. Usually offshore, mostly near bottom; surface to 1,200 feet (366 m).
