Caught incidentally by commercial trawlers.

Description: Elongate. Dorsal and anal fins long, join caudal fin. No pelvic fins. Head broad, flat on top. Mouth oblique, lower jaw projects; upper jaw extends past eye (with mouth closed). Exposed scales on rear of body, buried ones on front of body. Pale brown, with rows of dark blotches; tinged with yellow and violet.

Size: To at least 117 cm (46 inches)

Range/Habitat: Bering Sea to Humboldt Bay. Soft bottom, at 20-420 feet (6.1-128 m)

Description: Elongate, unscaled. Dorsal and anal fins long, join base of caudal fin. No pelvic fins. Head broad, flat on top. Mouth nearly vertical. Eyes point mostly upward. A long tube extends from nostril, in front of eye. Pink or red, mostly uniform in color.

Size: To 30 cm (1 foot)

Range/Habitat: Bering Sea to Eureka, California. Not well know – apparently live partly buried in bottom at 150 – 1,150 feet (46 – 350 m).
