THE FOLLOWING SEASONS WERE SET:

2008 Commercial White Sturgeon Winter Fishery
Season: 6 PM Tuesday January 8 – 6 PM Wednesday January 9 (24 hours)
6 PM Tuesday January 15 – 6 PM Wednesday January 16 (24 hours)
6 PM Tuesday January 22 – 6 PM Wednesday January 23 (24 hours)
6 PM Tuesday January 29 – 6 PM Wednesday January 30 (24 hours)
6 PM Tuesday February 5 – 6 PM Wednesday February 6 (24 hours)
6 PM Tuesday February 12 – 6 PM Wednesday February 13 (24 hours)
Area: Zones 1-5
Gear: 9" minimum and 9 ¾" maximum mesh size restrictions.
Allowable Sales: White sturgeon and adipose fin-clipped salmon.
Sanctuaries: Sandy River sanctuary
Misc:
24 hour Quick Reporting Rule in effect for Washington buyers.

2008 Recreational White Sturgeon Fishery for area Above Wauna
Season: Open for retention Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only
(4 days/week)
January 1 - July 31, 2008
and
October 1 - December 31, 2008
Area: Mainstem Columbia River from the Wauna powerlines upstream to Bonneville Dam, all adjacent Washington tributaries, and the lower Willamette River upstream to Willamette Falls, including Multnomah Channel.
Misc.: Retention of green sturgeon prohibited as per permanent regulations. All sturgeon directed angling is prohibited May through July in the sturgeon spawning sanctuary from Marker 85 upstream to Bonneville Dam.

2008 Recreational White Sturgeon Fishery for area Below Wauna
Season: Open for retention
(7 days/week)
January 1- April 30, 2008
and
May 10- June 24, 2008 (or until guideline met)
Area: Mainstem Columbia River from the Wauna powerlines downstream to the mouth at Buoy 10, including Youngs Bay, and all adjacent Washington tributaries.
Misc.: Retention of green sturgeon prohibited as per permanent regulations
42-inch minimum size limit January 1 through April 30
45-inch minimum size limit May 10 through June 24

  • Under permanent rules a treaty Indian commercial setline season occurs annually from noon January 1 to noon January 31. The current size limits for sturgeon caught for tribal subsistence and commercial purposes are 48-60 inches in The Dalles and John Day pools and 45-60 inches in the Bonneville Pool.

THE FOLLOWING SEASONS WERE SET:

2008 Commercial Mainstem Smelt Fishery
Season: Close ongoing 7-day per week fishery effective January 1, 2008.
Open Mondays and Thursdays, January 1 through March 31, 2008.
Open hours are 7 AM to 4 PM.
Area: Zones 1-5
Gear: Gill net, dip nets, or trawls as per permanent regulations.
Misc: 24 hour Quick Reporting Rule in effect for Washington buyers.

2008 Washington State Recreational Mainstem Smelt Fishery
Season: Open 7 days a week, 24-hours a day during January 1 through March 31, 2008.
Area: Zones 1-5
Limit: 25 pounds per person
Misc: Concurrent rules with Oregon

2008 Washington Commercial Tributary Smelt Fishery
Season: Open Sunday and Wednesday from January 1 through March 31, 2008.Open hours are 6 pm to midnight.
Area: Cowlitz River (downstream of Peterson's Eddy).
Gear: Dip nets.
Misc: 24 hour Quick Reporting Rule in effect for Washington buyers.

2008 Washington Recreational Tributary Smelt Fishery
Season: Open Saturdays only from January 1 through March 31, 2008
Open hours are 6 AM to 10 PM.
Area: Cowlitz River
Daily Limit: 10 pounds per person.
Misc: 24 hour Quick Reporting Rule in effect for Washington buyers.

  • The next Compact hearing is scheduled for 10 AM Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Water Resources Education Center in Vancouver, Washington.
