A Joint State hearing took place to discuss sturgeon sport fisheries in the area upstream of the Wauna power lines.

HEARING RESULTS

Above Wauna Sturgeon Recreational Fishery
Effective August 18, 2007: White sturgeon retention will be allowed 7 days per week (Sunday through Saturday) through September 30, 2007.

Area includes: The mainstem Columbia River from the Wauna power lines (RM 40) upstream to Bonneville Dam, including all adjacent Washington tributaries and the lower Willamette River upstream to Willamette Falls, including Multnomah Channel.

The following Columbia River Seasons were set:

NON-INDIAN COMMERCIAL FISHERIES
SEASON:

8 PM Thursday August 23 to 7 AM Friday August 24, 2007 (11 hours)

AREA: Zones 4-5
SANCTUARIES: Lewis-A, Washougal and Sandy Rivers.
GEAR: 9" minimum and 9¾" maximum mesh size restriction.

It will be legal to have onboard a commercial vessel more than one net, as long as the nets are of legal size for the fishery, or the net has a minimum mesh size of 9 inches. The length of any one net cannot exceed 1,500 feet in length.

ALLOWABLE SALES: Salmon and sturgeon.

A maximum of 3 white sturgeon may be possessed or sold by each participating vessel during each calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) that the fishery is open. The white sturgeon possession and sales limit includes mainstem fisheries only. Green sturgeon retention is prohibited

MISCELLANEOUS RULES: It is unlawful to fail to return immediately to the water any sturgeon taken in excess of any commercial catch or possession limits prescribed by the Department rule.

Quick Reporting Rules will be in effect for Washington buyers. WAC 220-69-240.
Washington buyers are required to send a report of their landings to WDFW within 8 hours after the fishery closes by either:

2007 TREATY INDIAN COMMERCIAL FISHERIES
DATES: 6:00 AM Wednesday, August 22 until 6:00 PM Friday, August 24, (2.5 days)
6:00 AM Tuesday, August 28 until 6:00 PM Friday, August 31 (3.5 days)
6:00 AM Tuesday, September 4 until 6:00 PM Saturday, September 8 (4.5 days)
AREA: All of Zone 6
GEAR: No Mesh Restriction through August 31,
8 inch minimum mesh size restriction thereafter.
SANCTUARIES: Standard river mouth and dam sanctuaries remain in effect, including Spring Creek.
ALLOWABLE SALES: Chinook, coho, steelhead, walleye, carp, and shad may be sold or retained for subsistence. Sockeye many not be sold but may be retained for subsistence. Sturgeon may not be sold. Sturgeon between 4-5 feet in length in The Dalles and John Day pools may be retained for subsistence. Sturgeon between 45-60 inches in the Bonneville pool may also be retained for subsistence.
ADDITIONAL RULES: 24-hour quick reporting rule for Washington buyers will be in effect.
WAC 220-69-240. WDFW has adopted rules that require commercial purchasers to report their landings by a specified time. Washington buyers are required to send a report of their landings to WDFW by either:
