Columbia River Fall Chinook Sport Fishery
RE-OPENS
Upstream of the Lewis River

The states of Washington and Oregon met today to review upriver fall Chinook stock status and took the following action:

Effective Saturday September 20, 2008
The Mainstem Columbia River from the Warrior Rock-Bachelor Island line (located above the mouth of the Lewis River) upstream to Bonneville Dam will open for the retention of Chinook.

  • The fishery currently in place above Bonneville Dam remains open.
  • Notice to Fishers: Call the "Hotline" Number to get the current fishing season. The hotline number is 360-902-2500 or 360-696-6211 *1010.
  • Visit WDFW website at wdfw.wa.gov/fishcorn.htm for fact sheets, action notices and landings.

THE FOLLOWING COLUMBIA RIVER SEASON WAS SET:

Treaty Indian Gillnet Fishery
Dates: 6:00 AM Monday, Sept. 22 to 6:00 PM Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 4.5 Days

Area:

All of Zone 6

Gear:

There will be an 8" minimum mesh size restriction

Sanctuaries:

Standard river mouth and dam sanctuaries applicable to these gear types remain in effect except the standard Spring Creek Hatchery Sanctuary will be reduced to 150 foot radius around the hatchery ladder entrance.

Allowable Sales:

Chinook, coho, sockeye, steelhead, walleye, carp, and shad may be sold or retained for subsistence. Sturgeon may not be sold. Sturgeon between 4-5 feet in length in The Dalles and John Day pools may be retained for subsistence. Sturgeon between 42-60 inches in the Bonneville Pool may also be retained for subsistence.

24 hour Quick Reporting Rule in effect for Washington buyers.

A Compact hearing has been scheduled for 2 PM Tuesday, September 23 via teleconference.
