Columbia River Compact / Joint State Action Notice

The Compact met on June 19 and extended the commercial shad fishery (two additional days):

Area: |
True north/south line through Light #50 near the mouth of the Sandy River upstream to the commercial fishing boundary near Beacon Rock.

Gear: |
Single-wall, unslackened, floater gill net; 5?"- 6¼" mesh size restrictions; 10-lb breaking strength; and the net may not exceed 150 fathoms in length or 40 meshes in depth.

Allowable Sales: |
Only shad may be kept and sold. All salmon, walleye, and sturgeon must be immediately returned to the water unharmed.

- A Compact hearing has been scheduled via teleconference for 11:00 .am. June 27 to consider additional treaty Indian fishing periods, additional recreational sturgeon fishing opportunity in the area below Wauna powerlines, and review sockeye stock status, harvest to date, and potential non-Indian sockeye fisheries
- A Compact hearing has been scheduled via teleconference for 10AM July 22 to consider early fall non-Indian commercial fishing periods
