THE FOLLOWING COLUMBIA RIVER SEASONS WERE SET, OR PREVIOUSLY ADOPTED:

2008 Late Fall Non-Indian Commercial Salmon Fishery
Time: *9 PM Tuesday, September 23 to 7 AM Wednesday, September 24, 2008 (10 hours)
7 PM Wednesday September 24 to 7 AM Thursday September 25 (12 hours)
7 PM Thursday September 25 to 7 AM Friday September 26 (12 hours)
7 PM Sunday September 28 to 7 AM Monday September 29 (12 hours)
7 PM Monday September 29 to 7 AM Tuesday September 30 (12 hours)
7 PM Tuesday September 30 to 7 AM Wednesday October 1 (12 hours)
7 PM Wednesday October 1 to 7 AM Thursday October 2 (12 hours)
7 AM Thursday October 2 to 7 AM Friday October 3 (12 hours)
Area: Zones 4-5
Gear: 8-inch minimum mesh size and 9¾-inch maximum mesh size.

Gear: 9-inch minimum mesh size and 9¾-inch maximum mesh size.
The following applies to all fisheries stated above

Allowable Sales:

Salmon and white sturgeon. A maximum of 10 white sturgeon may be possessed or sold by each participating vessel during each calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) that the fishery is open. Limit applies to mainstem only. Select Areas remain closed to white sturgeon retention.
Sanctuaries: As applicable: Elokomin-B, Abernathy, Cowlitz, Kalama-B, Lewis-B*, Sandy, and Washougal rivers. *Including all of the area from the upper boundary of the Lewis B sanctuary downstream to a line projected from the red navigation Marker 62 at the head of Deer Island, Oregon, across to the green navigation Marker 63 at Martin Island, Washington.

Additional Rules:

24 hour Quick Reporting Rules will be in effect for Washington buyers.

Nets not specifically authorized for use in this fishery may be onboard the vessel if properly stored. A properly stored net is defined as a net on a drum that is fully covered by a tarp (canvas or plastic) and bound with a minimum of ten revolutions of rope with a diameter of 3/8 (0.375) inches or greater.

No additional Compacts hearing are scheduled. Staff will continue to monitor all ongoing fisheries and announce additional hearings as needed.

Columbia River Fall Chinook Sport Fishery
Chinook bag limit increase
upstream of the Lewis River

The states of Washington and Oregon met today and took the following action:

Effective Thursday September 25, 2008
The Chinook daily bag limit will increase to two (2) adult fish in the Mainstem Columbia River (from the Warrior Rock-Bachelor Island line upstream to Bonneville Dam).

  • The fishery is expected to remain open through December 31
  • Daily limit is 6 salmon, up to two adults may be retained, Minimum size 12-inches.
  • Other permanent regulation apply
