Columbia River Compact / Joint State Action Notice

The Compact met today and modified fishing periods previously adopted for the evenings of August 25 and 27, 2009.

  1. The Compact reduced the fishing area to Zone 5 only, and
  2. The Compact reduced the weekly landing limit for white sturgeon to three fish.

The revised regulations are as follows:

Non-Indian Mainstem Commercial Early Fall Salmon Fishery

Season:

8 PM Tuesday August 25 to 6 AM Wednesday August 26 (10 hours)

8 PM Thursday August 27 to 6 AM Friday August 28 (10 hours)


Area:

Zone 5 (Area 1E)

Includes those waters of the Columbia River easterly of a line projected true north from Rooster Rock in the state of Oregon, and westerly of a line projected from a deadline marker on the Oregon bank (approximately four miles downstream from Bonneville Dam Powerhouse #1) in a straight line through the western tip of Pierce Island, to a deadline marker on the Washington bank at Beacon Rock.


Sanctuaries:

No river sanctuaries applicable.

Gear:

9" minimum and 9¾" maximum mesh size restriction.

Nets not specifically authorized for use in this fishery may be onboard the vessel if properly stored. A properly stored net is defined as a net on a drum that is fully covered by a tarp (canvas or plastic) and bound with a minimum of ten revolutions of rope with a diameter of 3/8 (0.375) inches or greater.


Allowable Sales:

Salmon and white sturgeon (43-54 inch fork length). A maximum of three (3) white sturgeon may be possessed or sold by each participating vessel during each calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) that the fishery is open. The white sturgeon possession and sales limit includes mainstem and Select Area fisheries.

Additional Rules:

24-hour Quick Reporting Rule will be in effect for Washington buyers.

No Compact hearings are scheduled at this time.
