THE FOLLOWING COLUMBIA RIVER SEASONS WERE SET:

2006 COMMERCIAL SALMON FISHERY

DATES:

7:00 PM Thursday June 29 through 5:00 AM Friday June 30
7:00 PM Wednesday July 5 through 5:00 AM Thursday July 6
Note: The July 5 fishing period was adopted on June 15

AREA: Zones 1-5
SANCTUARIES: Grays River, Elokomin-A, Cowlitz River, Kalama-A, Lewis-A, Washougal and Sandy River.
GEAR: 8-inch minimum and 9 ¾-inch maximum mesh size restriction.
ALLOWABLE SALES:Chinook, coho, sturgeon and shad. All sockeye and steelhead must be immediately released. A maximum of three sturgeon total (white or green) may be possessed or sold by each participating vessel during each calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) that the fishery is open. The sturgeon possession/sales limit includes only mainstem fisheries, as Select Area commercial fisheries are closed for sturgeon retention.
MISCELLANEOUS RULES: Effective July 7 retention of Green Sturgeon will be prohibited in Mainstem and Select Area Fisheries until further notice.

A Compact/Joint State hearing took place today to review summer Chinook stock status and Columbia River fisheries. The results are listed below.

BELOW BONNEVILLE SUMMER CHINOOK SPORT FISHERY

ESTUARY STURGEON SPORT FISHERY

JOHN DAY POOL STURGEON SPORT FISHERY

GREEN STURGEON RETENTION IN COMMERCIAL FISHERIES


A Joint State hearing is schedule for 11:00 AM Thursday June 29 via teleconference to discuss the ongoing Chinook sport fishery below Bonneville Dam.

A Compact/Joint State hearing is scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday July 6, 2006 via teleconference to review fisheries and stock status.

Compact is scheduled for at 10:00 AM Thursday July 27, 2006 located at 25 River St in Cathlamet, Washington 98612.
