Columbia River Compact / Joint State Hearing Notice

A Joint State hearing took place to discuss sturgeon sport fisheries in the area downstream of the Wauna power lines and summer Chinook fisheries from Bonneville Dam to Priest Rapids Dam.

Estuary Sturgeon Sport Fishery
|

No change in the fishery season. The fishery in the mainstem Columbia River from the Wauna power lines (RM 40) downstream to the mouth at Buoy 10, including Youngs Bay; and all adjacent Washington tributaries will remain open through July 4 as scheduled.

- Retention of green sturgeon is prohibited year-round per permanent rule.
- Columbia River from the Wauna power lines upstream to Marker 85 remains open to white sturgeon retention on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only, through July 31, 2007 and from October 1 through December 31, 2007 from the Wauna power lines upstream to Bonneville Dam.

Summer Chinook Sport Fishery - Bonneville Dam to Priest Rapids Dam

The retention of adult Chinook is prohibited effective 12:00 midnight Monday July 2 in the area from Bonneville Dam upstream to Priest Rapids Dam.

- The fishery had originally been scheduled to remain open through July 31. Other permanent regulations remain in place.
- The fishery below Bonneville Dam closes to Chinook retention effective Sunday July 1, 2007.

FUTURE HEARINGS
- Staff may request a hearing next week to review fisheries and stock status. Staff will continue to track the progress of the summer season and request additional hearings as needed.
- A Columbia River Compact hearing has been scheduled for 10 AM Thursday, July 26, 2007 located at the Astoria Public Library, 450 10th Street in Astoria, Oregon to review stock status of fall Chinook and consider non-Indian fall mainstem and Select Area commercial fisheries.
