THE FOLLOWING COLUMBIA RIVER SEASONS WERE SET:

Late Fall Non-Indian Commercial Salmon Fishery
Season #1: 7 PM Wednesday, September 30 to 7 AM Thursday, October 1, 2009 (12 hours)
7 PM Thursday, October 1 to 7 AM Friday, October 2, 2009
7 PM Sunday, October 4 to 7 AM Monday, October 5, 2009
Area: Zones 4-5
Gear: 8-inch minimum mesh size and 9¾-inch maximum mesh size.
 
Season #2: 7 AM – 7 PM Monday, October 5, 2009 (12 hours)
Area: Zones 1-3
Gear: 6-inch maximum mesh size; un-slackened floater gillnet.
The following applies to all proposed fisheries stated above
Allowable Sales: Salmon and white sturgeon. A maximum of 5 white sturgeon may be possessed or sold by each participating vessel during each calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) that the fishery is open. Limit applies to mainstem only. Select Areas remain closed to white sturgeon retention.
Miscellaneous Rules: Nets not specifically authorized for use in this fishery may be onboard the vessel if properly stored. A properly stored net is defined as a net on a drum that is fully covered by a tarp (canvas or plastic) and bound with a minimum of ten revolutions of rope with a diameter of 3/8 (0.375) inches or greater.
Sanctuaries: As applicable: Elokomin-B, Abernathy, Cowlitz, Kalama-B, Lewis-B, Sandy, and Washougal rivers.

Additional Rules:

24 hour Quick Reporting Rules will be in effect for Washington buyers.

The Compact also adjusted the start time of the Deep River fishery to 4PM for the remainder of the season, beginning Wednesday night, September 30.

2009 Select Area Fishery: Deep River
Season: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights from September 30 through October 30 Open 4 PM – 9 AM (14 hours)

Area:

All waters downstream of the town of Deep River to the mouth defined by a line from USCG navigation marker #16 southwest to a marker on the Washington shore.

Gear:

Restrict gear to 6-inch maximum mesh size, maximum net length of 100 fathoms, and no weight restriction on leadline. Use of additional weights or anchors attached directly to the leadline is allowed. No nets can be tied off to stationary structures. Nets may not fully cross the navigation channel.

Allowable Sales:

Salmon. Sales of white sturgeon are not allowed.

Additional Rules:

24 hour Quick Reporting Rule in effect for Washington buyers.

  • A Compact hearing is scheduled via teleconference at 3 PM Tuesday, October 6 to review salmon stock status and ongoing fisheries.
