THE FOLLOWING COLUMBIA RIVER SEASONS WERE SET:

2006 COMMERCIAL SALMON FISHERY

DATES:

7:00 PM Tuesday May 30 to 7:00 AM Wednesday May 31, (12 hours)
7:00 PM Thursday June 1 through 7:00 AM Friday June 2 (12 hours)

AREA: Zones 1-5
SANCTUARIES: Grays River, Elokomin-B, Abernathy Creek, Cowlitz River, Kalama-B, Lewis-B and Sandy River.
GEAR: 8-inch minimum and 9 ¾-inch maximum mesh size restriction
Shad gear not allowed on vessels during the above fisheries
ALLOWABLE SALES:Adipose fin-clipped Chinook salmon, sturgeon and shad. A maximum of three sturgeon total (white or green) may be possessed or sold by each participating vessel during each calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) that the fishery is open. The sturgeon possession/sales limit includes both mainstem and Select Area fisheries. The maximum green sturgeon size limit is 60 inches.
PARTICIPANTS:Columbia River commercial fishers with appropriate licenses and legal gear that attended a state-sponsored workshop concerning live capture commercial fishing techniques
MISCELLANEOUS RULES: Additional regulations were adopted at the January 26, 2006 Compact hearing. Those regulations include: Use of recovery boxes, limited soak times, red cork and lighted buoy requirements and cooperation of vessel operators to allow state monitors onboard to observe and collect data.

Washington buyers are required to send a report of their landings to WDFW by 10AM on the day after the purchase date by either:

2006 NON-INDIAN AREA 2S COMMERCIAL SHAD FISHERY- MODIFIED

DATES:

3 PM - 10 PM. Daily

May 30-June 2 (4 days)
June 5-9 (5 days)
June 12-16 (5 days)
June 19-23 (5 days)

AREA: True north/south line through Light #50 near the mouth of the Sandy River upstream to the commercial fishing boundary near Beacon Rock.
GEAR:Single-wall, unslackened, floater gill net; 5 3/8" to 6 ¼" mesh size restrictions; 10-lb breaking strength; and the net may not exceed 150 fathoms in length nor 40 meshes in depth. Salmon nets are not allowed on vessels when both shad and salmon fisheries are open.
ALLOWABLE SALES: Only shad may be kept and sold. All salmon, steelhead, walleye, and sturgeon must be immediately returned to the water unharmed.


THE FOLLOWING COLUMBIA RIVER SEASONS WERE MODIFIED:

2006 SELECT AREA FISHERY, BLIND SLOUGH/KNAPPA SLOUGH:

DATES:

7 PM to 7 AM (12 hours) Monday and Thursday nights through June 16

AREA: Blind Slough and Knappa Slough areas. Through June 16, the lower boundary of the Knappa Slough fishing area is extended downstream to boundary lines defined by markers on the west end of Minaker Island to markers on Karlson Island and the Oregon shore (fall boundary).
GEAR: 8-inch maximum mesh size restriction.

Nets restricted to 100 fathoms in length with no weight restriction leadline. Use of additional weights or anchors attached directly to the leadline is allowed.

ALLOWABLE SALES: Salmon, sturgeon, and shad. ONLY ADIPOSE FIN CLIPPED SALMON MAY BE RETAINED BETWEEN MAY 30 AND JUNE 3. A maximum of 3 sturgeon may be possessed or sold by each participating vessel during each open period.
MISC. REGULATIONS: Special transportation permits are not required to take fish outside the fishing area. Permit transportation regulations will be in effect.

2006 SELECT AREA FISHERY, DEEP RIVER:

DATES:

7 PM to 7 AM (12 hours). Monday and Thursday nights through June 16

AREA: Deep River fishing area from the markers at USCG navigation marker #16 upstream to the Highway 4 Bridge.
GEAR: 8-inch maximum mesh size restriction during spring season. Nets restricted to 100 fathoms in length with no weight restriction on leadline. No nets can be tied off to stationary structures. Nets may not fully cross navigation channel. Use of additional weights or anchors attached directly to the leadline is allowed.
ALLOWABLE SALES: Salmon, sturgeon, and shad. ONLY ADIPOSE FIN CLIPPED SALMON MAY BE RETAINED BETWEEN MAY 30 AND JUNE 3. A maximum of 3 sturgeon may be possessed or sold by each participating vessel during each open period.
MISC. REGULATIONS: Transportation or possession of fish outside the fishing area (except to the sampling station) is unlawful until WDFW staff has biologically sampled individual catches. After sampling, fishers will be issued a transportation permit by agency staff.
