2003 PFMC OCEAN SPORT QUOTA REPORT
Through Sunday, September 14, 2003

The ocean recreational salmon fisheries in Catch Areas 2, 3, and 4 closed on September 14. Catch Area 1 remains open to salmon fishing. A portion of Catch Area 3 will reopen September 20 through the earlier of October 5 or attainment of the overall area coho quota.

Columbia Ocean Area (including Oregon)

Ocean Area 1 (Columbia Ocean Area) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 29 with a quota of 112,500 coho and a guideline of 12,700 chinook. The fishery closed September 30. Cumulative catches through September 30 total 8,100 chinook and 106,411 coho (95% of the quota).

Westport

Ocean Area 2 (Westport) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 22 with a quota of 83,250 coho and a guideline of 40,600 chinook. The fishery closed September 14. Cumulative catches through September 14 total 21,820 chinook and 39,268 coho (47% of the quota).

La Push

Ocean Area 3 (La Push) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 22 with a quota of 5,750 coho and a guideline of 2,300 chinook . The fishery closed September 14, and a portion of Catch Area 3 reopened September 20 through the earlier of October 5 or attainment of the overall area coho quota. The catch estimates for Area 3 during weeks 38 and 39 are 89 chinook and 21 coho. Cumulative catches through September 28 total 1,845 chinook and 3,451 coho (60% of the quota).

Neah Bay

Ocean Area 4 (Neah Bay) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 22 with a quota of 23,400 coho and a guideline of 3,900 chinook. The fishery closed September 14. Cumulative catches through September 14 total 4,812 chinook and 20,102 coho (86% of the quota).

*Sub-quotas of 5,750 coho and 2,300 chinook are in effect in Area 3 for the time period June 22 - September 14.
Effective September 20, the fishery reopens through October 5, or until attainment of the total area quota of 5,850 coho or 2,400 chinook.
