2003 PFMC OCEAN SPORT QUOTA REPORT
Through Sunday, August 24, 2003

On August 21, a total of 5,000 chinook from the north of Falcon recreational total allowable catch was transferred to the north of Falcon non-Treaty troll total allowable catch. The resulting recreational quota is 54,600 chinook; the revised non-Treaty troll quota is 69,400 chinook.

Columbia Ocean Area (including Oregon)

Ocean Area 1 opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 29 with a quota of 112,500 coho and a guideline of 12,700 chinook. Water conditions this past week ranged from moderate to good. The catch estimates for Area 1 during week 34 are 1,652 chinook and 13,289 coho. A total of 9 pink were also landed. Cumulative catches through August 24 total 6,437 chinook and 83,447 coho (74% of the quota).

Westport

Ocean Area 2 opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 22 with a quota of 83,250 coho and a guideline of 40,600 chinook. Water conditions were moderate early last week, improving later in the week. The catch estimates for Area 2 during week 34 are 2,368 chinook and 5,334 coho. A total of 33 pink were also landed. Cumulative catches through August 24 total 18,327 chinook and 31,593 coho (38% of the quota).

La Push

Ocean Area 3 opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 22 with a quota of 5,750 coho and a guideline of 2,300 chinook . Water conditions were moderate early last week, improving later in the week. The catch estimates for Area 3 during week 34 are 178 chinook and 418 coho. A total of 67 pink were also landed. Cumulative catches through August 24 total 1,682 chinook and 3,008 coho (52% of the quota).

Neah Bay

Ocean Area 4 opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 22 with a quota of 23,400 coho and a guideline of 3,900 chinook. Water conditions were moderate early last week, improving later in the week. The catch estimates for Area 4 during week 34 are 173 chinook and 1,992 coho. A total of 854 pink were also landed. Cumulative catches through August 24 total 4,637 chinook and 17,058 coho (73% of the quota).
