2003 PFMC OCEAN SPORT QUOTA REPORT
Through Sunday, September 14, 2003

The ocean recreational salmon fisheries in Catch Areas 2, 3, and 4 closed on September 14. Catch Area 1 remains open to salmon fishing. A portion of Catch Area 3 will reopen September 20 through the earlier of October 5 or attainment of the overall area coho quota.

Columbia Ocean Area (including Oregon)

Ocean Area 1 (Columbia Ocean Area) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 29 with a quota of 112,500 coho and a guideline of 12,700 chinook. Water conditions ranged from moderate to rough last week. The catch estimates for Area 1 during week 37 are 233 chinook and 2,374 coho. No pink were landed. Cumulative catches through September 14 total 7,562 chinook and 100,917 coho (90% of the quota).

Westport

Ocean Area 2 (Westport) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 22 with a quota of 83,250 coho and a guideline of 40,600 chinook. Water conditions ranged from moderate to rough last week. The catch estimates for Area 2 during week 37 are 516 chinook and 2,128 coho. A total of 7 pink were also landed. Cumulative catches through September 14 total 21,820 chinook and 39,268 coho (47% of the quota).

La Push

Ocean Area 3 (La Push) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 22 with a quota of 5,750 coho and a guideline of 2,300 chinook . Water conditions ranged from moderate to rough last week. The catch estimates for Area 3 during week 37 are 2 chinook and 76 coho. No pink were landed. Cumulative catches through September 14 total 1,756 chinook and 3,430 coho (60% of the quota).

Neah Bay

Ocean Area 4 (Neah Bay) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Sunday, June 22 with a quota of 23,400 coho and a guideline of 3,900 chinook. Water conditions ranged from moderate to rough last week. The catch estimates for Area 4 during week 37 are 12 chinook and 302 coho. A total of 11 pink were also landed. Cumulative catches through September 14 total 4,812 chinook and 20,102 coho (86% of the quota).
