For the month of January, an estimated 63 steelhead were caught in the Ringold fishery (Hwy 395 to old Hanford town site). Of these, 59 were retained. Catch and harvest were comparable to prior years. For the season, 1,285 have been caught (638 ADRV, 431 AD, 216 wild). Of the fish caught in January, 50% were Ringold origin (adrv).
WDFW staff interviewed 90 anglers in January, 27% of the effort. Angler activity continued to decline in January. Harvest is slow and steady. Anglers caught 1 steelhead for every 11 hours of angling in December. Roughly 34% of the steelhead retained in January were adipose only clipped fish. The percentage of wild steelhead in the catch was 6.1% in January and is 16.8% overall for the season.
Very low numbers of steelhead have returned to the RSRF in 2007-08. No steelhead have been collected and transported from the Ringold trap this year.
