Catchable Trout

About 2.3 million catchable size trout (7 inch or larger) are scheduled to be stocked into Washington's lowland lakes this spring. Over 113,000 catchable size trout are planned for stocking into selected streams primarily to provide mitigation for lost opportunity to harvest wild fish and to provide recreational opportunity in areas where habitat does not support wild production.

Fry Trout Plants

Many of our lakes are stocked with trout fry about two inches long. These fish are planted in lakes the previous year, where they forage on natural foods and continue to grow until the following spring when they are large enough to be harvested. The survival of these fish vary depending on the lake. Some lakes in eastern Washington are managed in such a way that survival of the fry is good enough that they are the primary source of new fish stocked in the system. Most of the lakes on the west side of the state use fry plants to supplement lakes already stocked with the catchable sized trout because fry survival is lower.

Notice

Due to budget reductions and efforts to avoid impacts on other native species we have made a few changes in the management of the lowland lakes trout program. Please check the tables within to see if your lake has been stocked or visit our web site for more information at www.wdfw\.wa\.gov. Also, please consult the Fishing in Washington regulation pamphlet for seasons and special regulations.

This publication is organized into three sections, the first section presents trout stockings plans of catchable hatchery fish in the lowland lakes, followed by the stocking plans for streams, and then lakes stocked with more than 5,000 fry. Each section lists the waters by county and shows trout species, numbers to be stocked and approximate times to be stocked. The locations, dates, and times presented here are based on current information; changes may be made due to unavoidable circumstances.
