Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife 2001 Washington Triploid Trout Stocking Schedule
2001 Triploid Trout

Seventy seven lakes throughout the state have been selected to be stocked with triploid trout averaging 1 ½ pounds. These trout, purchased by the Department, are sterile rainbows that are voracious feeders and have the potential to grow to trophy size if not harvested the first season after stocking.

A total of 84,000 triploid trout will be stocked. Three separate stocking periods are planned. The first will occur in March with 7,400 triploid trout stocked in selected lakes that are open year around in the north Puget Sound and coastal regions. As in last year's plan, the fish stocked in April will target opening day of the lowland lake trout season and will be stocked as close to the opener as possible. This will comprise the main part of the program using the majority of the fish (63,800) and will involve lakes in all regions of the state. The final plant of 4,910 triploid trout will take place in May, again in the north Puget Sound and coastal regions. This will allow a third opportunity on newly stocked fish. The Department will publicize all three stocking periods through the news media.
