Salmon/Steelhead
Cowlitz River
- The Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery adult fish separator remains temporarily
closed due to construction work at the hatchery.
River flows at Mayfield
Dam are approximately 9,070 cubic feet per second on Monday, January
26, 2009. Water color is brown and visibility is less than two feet.
Blue Creek (tributary
to Cowlitz River) - Saturday Jan. 31 is the last day to fish for
hatchery steelhead and sea-run cutthroats.
The Dalles Pool
- Boat anglers are catching some steelhead.
Sturgeon
Lower Columbia
below Bonneville Dam - 6 bank anglers just below Bonneville Dam
had no catch.
Bonneville Pool
- Boat anglers are catching some legals. No legals were sampled
from the bank fishery.
The Dalles Pool
- No legal size fish were found in the sample.
Bass and Walleye
Bonneville and
The Dalles pools - A few walleye anglers were sampled but they had
no catch. No effort observed for bass.
Trout
Lake Sacajawea
in Longview - No report on angling success. Planted with 140 brood
stock rainbows weighing 5 pounds each and 20 weighing 8 pounds each
Jan. 20.
Kress Lake near
Kalama - No activity. Extremely poor water quality (turbid). Water
temp 42F.
Horseshoe Lake
in Woodland - Fair effort ( 6 anglers) with no harvest. Water temp
45F.
Battle Ground
Lake - No activity.
Klineline Pond
- Fair effort (20 anglers) with 2 brood stock caught. Water temp
40F.
Icehouse Lake
near Bridge of the Gods - Fair effort but no harvest.
Spearfish Lake
in Dallesport - No activity. Water temp 41F.
Rowland Lake
near Lyle - No activity. Water temp 40F.
Smelt
No update since
the Thursday Jan. 22 report except WDFW enforcement confirms smelt are
present in the Lewis. However, only the Cowlitz River is open to fishing
for smelt; all other Washington Columbia River tributaries remain closed.
The Cowlitz River
is open to fishing for smelt Saturdays only from 6 am to 10 pm through
March. Daily limit is 10 pounds per person.
