Salmon/Steelhead -
Cowlitz River - Boat anglers averaged a hatchery summer run steelhead per rod last week while bank anglers averaged one per about every 4 rods. Up to three hatchery steelhead may be retained as part of the trout daily limit through October 31 on the Cowlitz River from 400 feet or the posted signs below the barrier dam downstream to the Hwy. 4 Bridge at Kelso.
- During the week, Tacoma Power employees recovered 400 spring chinook adults, 49 spring chinook jacks, 349 summer-run steelhead, three cutthroat trout and two sockeye salmon adult during five days of separator operations at Tacoma Power's Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery.
- A total of 319 spring chinook adults and eleven spring chinook jacks were released into the upper Cowlitz River at the Lake Scanewa Day Use Park during the same time period.
- Also during the past week, Tacoma Power employees recycled 128 steelhead downstream to the Massey Bar boat launch, and they recycled 170 steelhead and a sockeye salmon downstream to the Olequa boat launch. A total of 95 adult steelhead were transported downstream to the Cowlitz Trout Hatchery for broodstock.
- River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 2,730 cubic feet per second on Monday, August 4. Water visibility is 13 feet.
North Lewis River - No report on angling success. Anglers may keep up to three hatchery steelhead from the I-5 Bridge at Woodland upstream to the overhead power lines below Merwin Dam. Emergency regulation is in effect through October 31 from Colvin Creek (located upstream from the salmon hatchery) downstream and September 30 from Colvin Creek upstream. Flows below Merwin Dam were 1,250 cfs today.
Drano Lake - Including fish released, boat anglers averaged better than ½ steelhead per rod last week. About 80 boats there Saturday (Aug. 2).
White Salmon River - Boat anglers averaged better than 2/3 steelhead per rod last week when counting fish released. Bank anglers are catching some chinook in addition to steelhead. About 35 boats/float tubes here last Saturday (Aug. 2).
Marine Area 1 - Report should be available tomorrow (Aug. 6).
Buoy 10 - Report from WDFW may be available tomorrow. ODFW reported a chinook per every 18 boat rods last weekend based on complete and incomplete trips. Fishing for coho was even slower with a fish per every 82 rods. About 250-300 boats counted there during the Saturday (Aug. 2) flight, including three boats aground at Clatsop Spit.
Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Including fish released, boat anglers slightly less than ½ steelhead per rod while bank anglers averaged one per every 5 rods. 92 boats counted at the mouth of the Cowlitz Saturday (Aug. 2). In addition, nearly 250 bank anglers were counted along the Washington shore from Vancouver downstream.
The final count of summer chinook at Bonneville Dam is 114,678 adults and 13,358 jacks. The counts of jacks was the third highest since 1976 and similar to the returns in 2000 and 2001.
Bonneville Pool - Some chinook are being caught off the mouths of Drano Lake and the White Salmon River.
Sturgeon -
Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - A few legals are being caught from Cathlamet upstream.
Trout -
Riffe Lake - Boat anglers are catching some landlocked coho but generally slow from the bank. The reservoir was reported 10 feet below full pool today.
Mayfield Lake - Bank anglers are catching some rainbows.
Northwestern Reservoir and Spearfish Lake - Bank anglers are catching some rainbows.
Mosquito and Steamboat lakes - Anglers are catching some eastern brookies.
Goose Lake - Boat anglers are catching some cutthroats and browns.
Tilton River and Skate Creek - Planted with 1,000 and 2,000 half pound rainbows, respectively, last week.
