Cowlitz
River - Boat anglers averaged a steelhead kept per rod. Fish
were caught throughout the river. Some sea run cutthroat are also being
caught.
During the past week Tacoma Power and Washington Department of Fish and
Wildlife personnel operated the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator and
recovered 1,015 summer-run steelhead adults, 67 adult spring chinook salmon,
53 spring chinook jacks, one adult fall chinook salmon, three cutthroat
trout, and two chum salmon during five days of separator operations.
Tacoma Power employees released 28 spring chinook adults into the Cispus
River above the mouth of Yellowjacket Creek. They released 11 spring chinook
adults into the upper Cowlitz River at the Franklin Bridge site in Packwood,
Washington, and they released one fall chinook into Mayfield Lake at Ike
Kinswa Park during the week.
Tacoma Power employees
recycled 388 summer-run steelhead downstream to the Olequa boat launch,
they recycled 521 summer-run steelhead downstream to the Interstate-5
boat launch. They recycled 401 steelhead and one chum downstream to
the Massey Bar boat launch, and recycled one chum downstream of the
barrier dam during the week.
River flows at Mayfield
Dam are approximately 2,960 cubic feet per second on Monday, August
14. Water visibility is approximately 15 feet.
Wind River
- Low effort and no catch observed.
Drano Lake - Including fish released, boat anglers averaged
a steelhead per rod. Slightly over half the fish caught were kept. Some
chinook are being caught by boat anglers using down riggers.
White Salmon River - Boat anglers averaged a steelhead per
rod. Bank anglers are catching some chinook and steelhead. At the mouth,
bank anglers are casting spinners for the chinook. About 60 water craft
here yesterday morning.
Klickitat River - Boat anglers are catching some steelhead.
Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Last week we
sampled nearly 1,000 salmonid anglers (including 229 boats) with 16
adult and 1 jack fall chinook, 240 steelhead, a sea run cutthroat, and
our first coho of the season. Chinook and steelhead were caught throughout
the lower river. Overall, bank anglers averaged a fish kept/released
per every 3 rods while boat anglers averaged one per every 4 rods based
on mainly incomplete and completed trips, respectively. 75% of the steelhead
caught were kept.
Bonneville
Pool - The few boat anglers sampled had no catch.

- Producing a mixture of landlocked coho, chinook, steelhead
plus some cutthroats.
Skate Creek and Tilton River - Each planted with 1,900
rainbows averaging nearly half-pound each on August 9.
