Sport Sampling Summaries - PDF Format
Salmon/Steelhead
- Cowlitz River - Boat anglers did
very well averaging a fish for every two anglers, including fish released.
The catch consisted of chinook, steelhead, coho, and searun cutthroat. Bank
anglers had some activity with steelhead, averaging a steelhead for every
sixteen anglers, including fish released.
- River flows at Mayfield Dam are
approximately 4,290 cfs.
- Toutle River - The handful of
bank anglers checked did well averaging almost a fish kept per angler, with
the catch consisting of coho and steelhead.
- Kalama River - Bank anglers did
very well averaging one chinook kept for every 2.5 anglers. No boat checks
were made last week.
- Lewis River - Effort was high,
however the catch consisted of only a couple steelhead. Flows below Merwin
Dam were 1,250 cfs as of August 23rd.
- Drano Lake - Bank anglers averaged
a steelhead for every 5 anglers, including fish released, while boat anglers
averaged a steelhead for every 2.6 anglers, including fish released. The catch
also included one chinook.
- White Salmon River - Both chinook
and steelhead are showing in the catch. Bank anglers averaged a fish kept
for every 5 anglers while boat anglers averaged a steelhead per angler including
fish released.
- Wind River - Very little effort
and no catch.
- Klickitat River - Effort was low,
boat anglers had one released steelhead.
- Lower Columbia below Bonneville
Dam - Bank anglers averaged a fish kept or released for every 9 anglers. Boat
anglers averaged a fish kept or released for every 2.7 anglers. Catch consisted
mainly of chinook for the boat anglers and mostly steelhead for the bank anglers.
The best fishing has been in the Kalama and Woodland areas as well as in the
mouth of the Cowlitz/Longview area.
- Bonneville Pool - Boat anglers
averaged a chinook kept for every four anglers.
- Hanford Reach - Effort was very
low, boat anglers released one steelhead.
Sturgeon
- Lower Columbia below Bonneville
Dam - Light effort since the fishery went to catch and release.
- John Day Pool - Eleven bank anglers
released one sub-legal sturgeon, while 5 boat anglers released 1 sub-legal
and 2 over-sized sturgeon. All three pools are now closed to sturgeon retention.
Walleye, Bass and other
warmwater fish
- John Day Pool - 5 boat anglers
released two walleye. Only one bass angler was interviewed with no catch.
Trout
- No surveys were conducted for
trout this week.
