Salmon/Steelhead -
Grays River - No report on angling success. The mainstem Grays from the Hwy. 4 Bridge upstream and the West Fork opens to fishing for hatchery steelhead Monday Dec. 15.
Elochoman River - No report on angling success. Through December 2, a total of 126 hatchery winter run steelhead had returned.
Cowlitz River -
- Monday 12/1: Cispus River; 5 anglers kept 3 adult coho and released 2 adults.
- Wednesday (12/3): Lake Scanewa; 10 boat anglers kept 13 adult coho and 13 jacks.
Released 8 adults. 3 shore anglers kept 1 adult and released 1 adult.- Saturday (12/6): Lake Scanewa; 16 boat anglers kept 8 adult coho and 2 jacks.
Released 20 adults, 7 jacks. One shore angler caught 0 fish.Many of the released fish were unmarked "wild" fish.
During the past week, Tacoma Power and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife employees recovered 2,131 coho salmon adults, 339 coho jacks, nine fall Chinook adults, 271 winter-run steelhead, 39 summer-run steelhead, 28 cutthroat trout and one chum salmon during seven days of separator operations at Tacoma Power's Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery.
Tacoma Power workers released 362 coho adults and 93 coho jacks into the Cowlitz River near the Franklin Bridge in Packwood , Washington . A total of 1,102 coho adults and 95 coho jacks were released into Lake Scanewa above Cowlitz Falls Dam, and 124 coho adults and 34 coho jacks were released into the Cispus River .
Tacoma Power employees released a total of 332 coho adults, 68 coho jacks, eight fall Chinook adults, eleven winter-run steelhead and two cutthroat trout into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton, Washington during the week. A total of 295 winter-run steelhead, 83 summer-run steelhead, 24 cutthroat trout and one chum salmon were recycled downstream to the I-5 boat launch during the week.
River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 10,100 cubic feet per second on Monday, December 8. Water visibility is less than three feet.
Kalama River - Hatchery winter steelhead counts continue to be very good on the Kalama. It could be an early return year or more optimistically just a good year- Since December 1 we have recycled 250 back downstream to the BHP boat ramp( half of those fish were handled today (12/08). Additionally, over the same period we have planted 50 steelhead into Kress Lake.
Steelhead are recycled downstream and into Kress Lake on Mondays and Fridays, generally.
Lewis River - No report on angling success. The North Fork Lewis from Colvin Creek upstream opens to fishing for hatchery steelhead beginning Tuesday December 16.
Washougal River - No report on angling success. Through December 3, a total of 21 hatchery winter run steelhead had returned to Skamania Hatchery.
Trout -
South Lewis County Park Pond in Toledo - Some nice size rainbows and cutthroats are being caught.
