Salmon/Steelhead -

Cowlitz River - For the week of Jan 30 - Feb 3, 10 shore anglers were interviewed who fished 25.75 hours and caught one winter-run steelhead.

During the past week, Tacoma Power employees recovered 67 winter-run steelhead and five coho salmon during four days of separator operations at Tacoma Power’s Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery.

Tacoma Power employees released 37 winter-run steelhead and three coho salmon adults into the upper Cowlitz River at Lake Scanewa Day Use Park. During the week Tacoma Power employees recycled 34 winter-run steelhead and one summer steelhead downstream to the Interstate-5 boat launch.Also, a total of 10 winter-run steelhead and two coho salmon were released into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton, Washington. River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 13,900 cubic feet per second on Monday, February 6. Water visibility is almost 4 feet.

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Only a handful of salmonid anglers were counted during the Wednesday Feb. 1 flight.

Bonneville Pool - Boat anglers are catching some steelhead.

The Dalles Pool - Including fish released, boat anglers averaged nearly a steelhead per rod.

Kalama River - Still lots of water, but dropping with excellent color, should be good for boaters by the weekend. Friday (2/3/06) - 4 hatchery winter brood were recycled to the lower river and 12 wild winter steelhead were passed upstream of Kalama Falls Hatchery. Also 38 steelhead were planted into Kress Lake.

Columbia River coho 2005 run and forecasts for 2006 - Forecasts for this year are nearly identical to last year's actual run - about 400,000 fish. Early stock coho are expected to again comprise about 2/3 of the run. Attached are the actual forecasts.

Sturgeon -

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - No report currently available.

Bonneville and The Dalles pools - Boat anglers are catching some legals. Slow for legal sized fish from the bank.

Walleye and Bass -

Bonneville Pool - No effort observed for either specie.

The Dalles Pool - Boat anglers are catching some walleye. No effort observed for bass.

Trout -

Klineline Pond - 4 bank anglers kept 1 rainbow. Cormorants appeared to have taken a large portion of the recently planted fish. Scheduled to be stocked again this week.

Smelt -

Lower Columbia mainstem - A total of 9,207 lbs. of smelt have been landed so far in the commercial fishery with just over 1,600 lbs. landed February 2nd which was better than the last couple of fishing periods

Cowlitz River - There is a confirmed report of a fisher who caught 8 smelt from the Cowlitz last Saturday. Quite a few seals reported at Gearhart Park near the mouth of the Cowlitz.

Cowlitz River flows at Castle Rock have dropped from a high of nearly 60,000 cfs on Monday January 30 to 21,700 cfs today.
