Salmon/Steelhead
-
Cowlitz
River - Fishing is still very slow on the Cowlitz. There was
a couple of steelhead caught by boat anglers at Blue Creek but otherwise
very slow. No effort at the Barrier, Mission, or I-5.
Lower Columbia
mainstem from the I-5 Bridge downstream - Light effort and
no catch observed. The largest patch of fishable water is from the mouth
of the Willamette to the Lewis River. However, a dredge is working the
area near Davis Bar (Vancouver).
No more chinook
had been counted at Bonneville Dam or Willamette Falls through February
21. However, upriver fish are present in the lower Columbia based on
commercial catch sampling.
Bonneville
and The Dalles pools - No salmonid effort was observed.
Sturgeon

Lower Columbia
below Bonneville Dam - Some sublegals are being caught in the
Longview area.
Bonneville
and The Dalles pools - No legals were sampled.
Walleye and
Bass -
Bonneville
and The Dalles pools - Boat anglers are catching walleye. Some
bass are being caught by boat anglers in Bonneville Pool.
Trout -
Horseshoe
Lake in Woodland - Planted with 326 rainbows averaging 2.5
pounds each on Feb. 21.
Klineline
Pond - 66 bank anglers kept 40 catchable size rainbows, 54
browns, and one five pound rainbow. They also released 17 rainbows and
43 brown trout. Lures, flies, and rubber worms in yellow or green are
working best. Planted with 1,000 half pound rainbows and 2,000 half
pound browns last week.
Battleground
Lake - Planted with 1,000 half-pound rainbows on Feb. 20.
Lacamas
Lake in Camas - Planted with 7,000 half-pound browns on Feb.

Smelt -
Cowlitz
River - Smelt were caught from the mouth up to Camelot on Saturday
Feb. 24. Catches ranged from 0 to a few per dip with zeros being the
majority. Dipping was reported better in the morning or evening. A few
limits were reported but most dippers went home with numbers of fish
that could be counted.
Mainstem
Columbia - Commercial catches increased. Fishers landed 552
pounds in the Cathlamet area on Feb. 22.
