Sport Sampling Summaries - PDF Format

Salmon/Steelhead -

White Salmon and Klickitat rivers - Some steelhead are reported being caught but none were found during sampling last week.

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Including fish released, boat anglers averaged a summer-run steelhead per every 5.6 rods while bank anglers averaged one per every 7.8 rods last week. Best catches were from Cathlamet downstream. Some hatchery summer chinook were also being caught.

Bonneville, The Dalles, and John Day pools - Fairly light effort and catches for salmonids last week.

Sturgeon -

Lower Columbia from the Wauna power lines upstream to Bonneville Dam - Bank anglers in the Longview area and just below Bonneville Dam plus boat anglers in the Bonneville and Kalama areas were catching some legals.

Bonneville, The Dalles, and John Day pools - As of today, only John Day Pool remains open for sturgeon retention. Boat anglers there were catching some legals last week.


Walleye and Bass -

Riffe Lake - Boat anglers were catching some smallmouth bass.

Bonneville Pool - No in-sample effort for either bass or walleye were found last week.

The Dalles Pool - No sampling.

John Day Pool - Boat anglers averaged 3 walleye and nearly 6 bass per rod last week when counting fish released.


Trout -

Riffe Lake - Producing good numbers of landlocked coho and some steelhead and chinook. The reservoir was reported 5.1 feet below full pool today.

Mayfield Lake - Last week, boat anglers averaged over 3 rainbow per rod. Bank anglers were also catching some fish.

Merwin Reservoir - Boat anglers averaged 2.5 kokanee per rod last week. Fish ranged from 9-14 inches.

Forlong and Mosquito lakes - Boat anglers are catching eastern brook and tiger trout. At Mosquito Lake, fish ranged from 10-12 inches.
