Salmon/Steelhead -
Cowlitz River - Catch of summer steelhead has surpassed the catch of spring chinook. Boat anglers averaged a hatchery summer steelhead for every three anglers. One spring chinook also showed up in the catch. Bank angling was very slow with only one cutthroat released. River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 4.050 cubic feet per second (cfs) on Monday, June 9.
Kalama River - The catch remains heavier to hatchery spring chinook than to hatchery summer steelhead. Boat anglers averaged a fish kept for every 4 - 5 anglers. Bank anglers averaged a fish kept for every 8 anglers.
Lewis River - Bank angling is rather slow with 2 hatchery steelhead and 1 spring chinook jack kept for 28 anglers. Boat anglers faired better with either a hatchery steelhead or a spring chinook kept for every three anglers. Flows below Merwin Dam were 2,700 cfs as of Friday, June 6.
Wind River - Catch of spring chinook remains good in the upper Wind. Anglers averaged a spring chinook kept for every 2 anglers.
Klickitat River - Catch of spring chinook remains good on the Klickitat. Bank anglers averaged a spring chinook kept for every 2 anglers. Boat anglers had no catch for the past week.
Lower Columbia from the I-5 bridge downstream to the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line - Catch of hatchery steelhead averaged one for every 11 bank anglers, overall. Best catch remains downstream from Longview with a fish per every 8 anglers.
Sturgeon -
Ports of Chinook and Ilwaco - Data not currently available.
Deep River - Boat anglers averaged a legal kept for every 10 anglers. Bank anglers averaged a sturgeon kept for every 17 anglers.
Bonneville Pool - Boat and bank anglers had some catch for last week. Boat anglers averaged almost a kept sturgeon per boat, while bank anglers averaged a sturgeon kept for every 18 anglers.
The Dalles Pool - Catch averaged very similar to Bonneville Pool with boat anglers averaging a kept sturgeon per boat and bank anglers averaged a kept sturgeon for every 15 anglers.
John Day Pool - Catch of legal-sized sturgeon was very slow for boat and bank anglers.
Walleye and Bass -
Bonneville Pool - Catch and release of bass was very high for the few anglers checked. No walleye anglers were checked.
The Dalles Pool - Effort was low for walleye, the few anglers checked caught 2 walleye per angler, including fish released. Bass anglers who were bank fishing averaged 1.3 fish per angler, including fish released, while boat anglers averaged 5 fish per angler, including fish released.
John Day Pool - Walleye anglers fishing in boats averaged almost one walleye kept for every angler. No bank anglers were checked who were walleye fishing. Bass anglers who were bank fishing averaged more than a fish per angler including fish released, while boat anglers averaged over 4 bass per angler, including fish released.
Trout -
Mayfield Lake - Effort was light, but catches were good for boat anglers who averaged 3 rainbow trout kept for every angler.
Horseshoe Lake - Bank anglers averaged a fish kept for every three anglers while boat anglers faired slightly better. Catch consisted of rainbows, browns, and cutthroat.
Klineline Pond - Catch was excellent with anglers averaging about 2 fish per person, including 10 rainbow trout released. Catch consisted of rainbows, browns, and a couple of triploids.
Vancouver Lake - Effort was light with no catch.
Kress Lake - Catch was good with almost a fish per angler, including 7 rainbow trout released. Catch included rainbows and catfish.
Shad -
Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Bank anglers averaged 7 shad per angler including fish released. Almost 2 million shad passed over Bonneville Dam last week. June 5's count was 504,723 and June 6's count was 520,664 breaking the previous record of 212,826 on June 9, 2002!
