Cowlitz
River - Boat and bank anglers are catching summer run steelhead
near Blue Creek.
Through October,
anglers may keep up to 6 hatchery steelhead from the Hwy. 4 Bridge at
Kelso upstream to 100 feet or posted markers below the barrier dam.
Last week
Tacoma Power recovered 330 spring chinook adults, 102 jacks, 69 summer-run
steelhead, two winter-run steelhead and two sea-run cutthroat trout
at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator during five days of operations.
Tacoma Power
employees released 113 spring chinook salmon, 53 jacks and two winter-run
steelhead into the upper Cowlitz River at the Lake Scanewa day use site
during the week. A total of 42 adult spring chinook adult and three
jacks were released into the Cispus River, and 27 spring chinook adults
and 12 jacks were released into the upper Cowlitz River at the Skate
Bridge site in Packwood. Tacoma Power employees transported one unmarked
summer-run steelhead adult downstream to the Massey Bar boat launch.
River flows
at Mayfield Dam are approximately 4,120 cubic feet per second on Monday,
June 11. On Wednesday, flows will be increased to approximately 4,800
cubic feet per second for a 12-hour period.
Lewis River
- Some steelhead are being caught at the mouth of the river.
Lower Columbia
below Bonneville Dam - Last week we sampled 664 salmonid anglers
(including 64 boats) with 66 adult and 5 jack spring chinook and 48
summer run steelhead. Including fish released, boat anglers averaged
an adult chinook per every 7.8 rods while bank anglers averaged one
per every 10.8 rods based on mainly complete and incomplete trips, respectively.
In general, most adult chinook were caught from Kalama upstream while
steelhead were caught from Longview downstream.
Of the 66
adult chinook caught 38 (57.6%) were kept. Of the 37 fish adult chinook
sampled, 33 (89%) were upriver stock based on Visual Stock Identification.
During the
Sunday June 10 flight, a total of 171 WA and 129 OR bank and 132 salmonid
boats were counted.
From June
16-30, any adult chinook (fin clipped or not) may be retained from Rocky
Point/Tongue Point line to Bonneville Dam.
Bonneville
Pool - The bank anglers sampled had no catch.
The Dalles
Pool - Some spring chinook are being caught. Most of the effort
is between River Mile 215-216.
John Day
Pool - Little effort and no catch observed.
From June
16 through July 31, any chinook, fin clipped or not, may be retained
from Bonneville Dam to Priest Rapids Dam.
Ports of
Chinook and Ilwaco - Charter boat anglers averaged nearly 2/3 legal
kept per rod while private boaters averaged one per every 4 rods.
Deep River/Knappton
ramps and Knappton to Fort Columbia bank - Boat anglers averaged
better than ½ legal kept/released per rod based on complete trips.
Bank anglers from Fort Columbia to Knappton averaged a legal kept per
every 11.8 rods based on mainly incomplete trips.
Wauna powerlines
to Marker #85 - Few legal size fish were sampled from the bank and
boats.
During the
Sunday June 10 flight, 469 private sturgeon boats, 24 charters, and
77 WA and 29 OR bank anglers were counted. 3/4 of the private and all
of the charter boats were counted in the estuary. In addition, 3/4 of
the WA + OR bank effort were also found in the estuary.
Bonneville
Pool - Bank and boat anglers are catching some legals. Through May,
an estimated 97 (14%) of the 700 fish guideline had been taken.
The Dalles
and John Day pools - Closed to sturgeon retention through the end
of the year.
