Sport Sampling Summaries - PDF Format

Salmon/Steelhead -

Kalama River - For the week of Feb. 16-22: 141 bank anglers kept 2 hatchery steelhead and released 1 hatchery and 2 wild steelhead. 69 boat anglers kept 11 hatchery steelhead and released 3 hatchery and 10 wild steelhead.

Lewis River - 3 bank anglers near the salmon hatchery had no catch last week.

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Including fish released, bank anglers just downstream from Bonneville Dam averaged a spring chinook per every 6 rods last week. About 40% of the fish handled were ad-clipped. Fish ranged from 16-30 pounds. Rest of the river was very slow last week.

Bonneville Pool - Boat anglers were catching some steelhead.

The Dalles Pool - Including fish released, boat anglers averaged 2.6 summer-run steelhead (last year's returns) per rod last week. Bank anglers averaged ½ steelhead per rod.

John Day Pool - Bank anglers were catching some summer run steelhead from last year's return.

Regs for Wind and Klickitat rivers plus Drano Lake spring chinook sport fisheries should be released this week.

Sturgeon -

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Bank anglers just downstream from Bonneville Dam were catching some legals.

Bonneville Pool - Boat anglers averaged a legal kept per every 7 rods last week. Bank angling was slow for legal sized fish.

The Dalles Pool - Anglers were catching a few legals.

John Day Pool - Slow for legal sized fish.

Walleye and Bass -

Bonneville Pool - Low effort.

The Dalles Pool - Boat anglers averaged ½ legal walleye per rod last week. No effort was observed for bass.

John Day Pool - Boat anglers averaged 1/3 walleye released per rod last week. Some bass are also being caught.

Trout -

Lacamas Lake near Camas was planted with 7,500 catchable size brown trout last week.

Smelt -

Smelt are still reported in the Lewis River.
