Salmon/Steelhead

Grays River - From mouth to Hwy. 4 Bridge opens to fishing for hatchery steelhead beginning November 15. The mainstem from the Hwy. 4 Bridge to the South Fork and the West Fork from the mouth to the hatchery intake/footbridge will open to fishing for hatchery steelhead beginning December 15.

Cowlitz River - Bank anglers at the barrier dam are catching some coho.

Coweeman River - From mouth to Mulholland Creek opened to fishing for hatchery steelhead November 1. Salmon fishing remains closed year round.

Kalama River - Light effort and no catch observed.

Lewis River - Including fish released, boat anglers averaged over a salmon per rod. About half the catch are fall chinook which have to be released. Bank anglers near the salmon hatchery are averaging a coho per every 3 rods when including fish released.

Weekly spawning ground surveys continue to show low numbers of fall chinook. The peak count should be approaching.

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Boat anglers in the Camas/Washougal area are catching some coho although overall effort is light.

Bonneville Pool - Boat anglers averaged about 2/3 coho per rod.

Winter run steelhead are beginning to appear at lower Columbia River traps. Through Nov. 7, a total of 5 hatchery fish had returned to the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery, 4 wild and 1 hatchery fish to Kalama Falls Hatchery, and 2 hatchery fish to the Merwin Trap on the Lewis. Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Since Nov. 1, bank anglers just below Bonneville Dam averaged a legal kept per every 8.5 rods. Boat anglers in the Camas/Washougal area were also catching some legals
