Salmon/Steelhead

Cowlitz River - Anglers continue to catch late stock coho, especially near the barrier dam.

Last week Tacoma Power recovered 1,754 coho salmon adults, 60 coho jacks, 14 fall chinook adults, 70 summer-run steelhead, 29 winter-run steelhead, 12 cutthroat trout and two chum salmon at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator during six days of operations.

During the week Tacoma Power employees released 218 coho adults and four jacks into Lake Scanewa at the Day Use Site, 132 coho adults into the Cispus River above the mouth of Yellow Jacket Creek, 269 coho adults and three jacks into the upper Cowlitz River at the Skate Creek Bridge in Packwood, Washington, and 162 coho adults, two jacks, 81 fall chinook adults and two cutthroat trout into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton, Washington.

River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately at 4,720 cubic feet per second on Monday, November 26. Water visibility is 13 feet.

Blue and Mill Creeks (Lewis County, both tributaries to the Cowlitz River) - Scheduled to open to fishing for hatchery steelhead beginning December 1. Blue Creek also opens for hatchery sea-run cutthroat. Check the regulation pamphlet for seasons, areas, restrictions, and daily limits.

Lewis River - Some late stock coho are being caught, primarily near the salmon hatchery.

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Light effort and no catch was observed.

Columbia River Salmon Fisheries Visioning Process- WDFW and ODFW have convened a Stakeholder Group comprised of Columbia River recreational and commercial fishing interests. The purpose of this Stakeholder Group is to develop a future vision for the combined fisheries (recreational and commercial), including a workable plan for the future allocation of allowable harvests between the two fisheries. The first meeting of the Stakeholder Group was November 13. The group is scheduled to meet again on December 5 and 20 and January 8. Lower Columbia from the Wauna powerlines to Bonneville Dam - Most of the catch and effort remains in the gorge although catches there have slowed recently.
