Salmon/Steelhead -

Toutle River - Fall chinook were being caught; however, all chinook must be released now from the Kidd Valley Bridge near Hwy. 504 upstream including the Green River. A few coho and steelhead were found in the sample.

Cowlitz River - Bank anglers at Blue Creek and the barrier dam are catching fall chinook, coho, steelhead, and sea-run cutthroats. Bank angling is slow from the I-5 Bridge downstream except for the mouth of the Toutle where anglers are catching fall chinook and coho.

Boat anglers from the I-5 Bridge downstream are catching a mixture of fall chinook and coho while boaters upstream of the bridge are catching mainly steelhead and sea-run cutthroats.

All chinook must now be released between Blue Creek and Mill Creek.

During the past week Tacoma Power and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife recovered 2,313 adult coho salmon, 302 coho jacks, 970 fall chinook adults, 46 fall chinook jacks, 72 summer-run steelhead, one adult spring chinook salmon and 15 cutthroat trout at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator during five days of operations.

Tacoma Power employees resumed transporting fish to Lake Scanewa last week with the releases of 1,285 coho adults, 175 coho jacks and one spring chinook adult into the Cowlitz River at the Day Use Site. In addition, they released 105 coho adults and 23 coho jacks into the Cipsus River above the mouth of Yellowjacket Creek during the week.

A total of 699 coho adults, 46 coho jacks, one cutthroat trout, 518 fall chinook adults and 35 jacks were released into Mayfield Lake at Ike Kinswa Park boat launch during the week.

During the week 39 steelhead adults and nine cutthroat trout were recycled downstream to the Interstate-5 boat launch. Five cutthroat were released into the upper Cowlitz River basin by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 3,510 cubic feet per second on Monday, October 2. Water visibility is over 12 feet.

Kalama River - Fly anglers were releasing good numbers of dark chinook. All chinook must now be released from the natural gas pipeline crossing upstream.

Lewis River - Some fall chinook and coho are being caught around the salmon hatchery. Closed to all fishing from Colvin Creek (just upstream from the salmon hatchery) to Merwin Dam.

Drano Lake - Boat anglers are catching some fall chinook, coho, and steelhead. Effort is light. Lake is closed to night fishing everyday and all fishing each Wednesday in October.

White Salmon - Boat anglers are catching some coho.

Klickitat River - Anglers were doing well on fall chinook. Effort has increased several fold.

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Effort and catches are generally light although boat anglers near Woodland released several chinook.

Bonneville Pool - Boat anglers are catching some fall chinook, coho, and steelhead. Re-opened for retention of chinook on Saturday September 30.

Sturgeon -

Lower Columbia from the Wauna power lines near Cathlamet to Bonneville Dam - Effort is light during the current catch and release only fishery. Re-opens to retention Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays only beginning October 5.

Trout -

South Lewis County Park Pond near Toledo - Planted with 334 one-pound cutthroats on September 26.

Battleground Lake - Planted with 30 rainbows averaging 10 pounds each and 813 cutthroats about a pound each September 25-26.

Goose Lake - Planted with an additional 1,545 cutthroats averaging nearly a pound each on September 25.
