Private Fish Plants of Trout, Warmwater
Fish & Grass Carp

A permit is required by the state of Washington to plant fish species into private ponds. To plant trout or warmwater fish in southwest Washington, a permit can be obtained by calling Stacie Kelsey at (360) 906-6706. There is a $24 application fee for this permit.

Sterile grass carp have been used successfully to control noxious aquatic weeds in small ponds and lakes. To apply for this permit contact the above number. The process for grass carp permits can take 4-6 weeks.

Grass carp have been stocked in some public waters including Silver Lake, Lake Sacajawea and Klineline Pond. Anglers are reminded that it is illegal to retain grass carp.

There are some fish species that are not allowed in Washington state. These are listed in the regulations under Harmful Exotic Species. Please refer to this section if you have any questions or call (360) 906-6706.
