Salmon/Steelhead
- Cowlitz River - Producing a variety
of fish including fall chinook and coho, summer-run steelhead, and sea-run
cutthroat downstream from the I-5 Bridge.
- During the past week Tacoma Power's
Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator recovered 581 fall chinook salmon, two fall
chinook jacks, 110 summer-run steelhead, 66 adult spring chinook salmon, five
spring chinook jacks, three coho salmon, two chum salmon, one sockeye salmon
and three cutthroat trout.
- During the week, Tacoma Power
employees released 517 fall chinook adults, five fall chinook jacks, 95 spring
chinook adults and one spring chinook jack into the upper Cowlitz River at
the Day Use Park on Lake Scanewa.
- Between September 3 and September
6, Tacoma Power employees recycled 108 summer-run steelhead downstream to
the Olequa boat launch.
- Washington Department of Fish
and Wildlife employees transported one cutthroat trout to the upper Cowlitz
River basin during the week.
- A total of 36 summer-run steelhead
were transported to the Cowlitz Trout Hatchery for broodstock during the week.
Through September 4, about 200 fall chinook had been collected for broodstock
at the Toutle Hatchery.
- River flows at Mayfield Dam are
approximately 4,630 cubic feet per second on Monday, September 9. Water visibility
is thirteen feet.
- Kalama River - Fall chinook and
summer-run steelhead are present throughout the lower river though effort
and catches have been generally light.
- Lewis River - No reports on angling
success. Some early run coho are present in the North Fork as 38 adults had
been trapped at Merwin Dam through September 4. Flows were 1,360 cfs today
after being up to 4,100 cfs on Saturday.
- Washougal River - Effort and catches
have been generally light.
- Wind River - Boat anglers are
catching some summer-run steelhead at the mouth of the river.
- Drano Lake and the White Salmon
River - Relatively slow for summer-run steelhead.
- Klickitat River - Upriver bright
fall chinook, coho, and summer-run steelhead are present in the lower river.
- Buoy 10 - No report is currently
available.
- Lower Columbia below Bonneville
Dam - Improved for fall chinook last week. Overall, boat anglers averaged
better than ½ chinook per rod based on completed trips while bank anglers
averaged one per every 10 rods based on mainly incomplete trips. Best catches
were between Longview and Woodland.
Some hatchery coho are being caught at the mouth of the Cowlitz.
- At Bonneville Dam last weekend,
over 24,000 adult fall chinook were counted each day. We should be near the
peak of the run.
- Bonneville Pool - Slow this past
weekend for fall chinook.
- Hanford Reach - Effort and catch
increased last week. Boat anglers averaged one chinook for every ten rods.
The fishery at the mouth of the Yakima River harvested about 100 chinook last
week.
