HARVEST PROFILE:
Not much is known about clam resources at Old Fort Townsend State Park. The beach substrate is mostly sand with a few pockets of gravel.
There are reports of horse clams on this beach.
There is probably not much other clam resource here.
A nearby alternative with good clamming is Chimacum Tidelands/Irondale Park .
DIRECTIONS TO SITE:
To reach the site from the west on Highway 101 travel east to Discovery Bay and take
the well marked left turn to Port Townsend via Highway 20. Proceed about eight miles on Highway 20
until you reach the intersection of Highway 20 and Old Fort Townsend Road. There is a sign for
the State Park at this intersection. Take the right turn onto Old Fort Townsend Road and
follow it about one and a half miles to its end at Old Fort Townsend State Park.
To reach the site from the east on Highway 104 from the Hood
Canal Bridge take the Port Townsend/Port Ludlow exit (a right turn) and travel north on
Beaver Valley Road (Highway 19) for about seven miles to Chimacum. Go straight
at the four way stop and continue on Highway 19 for about six miles to the
intersection of Highway 20 and Old Fort Townsend Road. There is a sign for
the State Park at this intersection. Take the right turn onto Old Fort Townsend
Road and follow it about one and a half miles to its end at Old Fort Townsend State Park.
FACILITIES:
There are restrooms, picnic areas, hiking trails, ball fields and a play ground at
Old Fort Townsend State Park.
