Coastal Commercial Dungness Crab Fishers and Processors WDFW Industry Notice
April 25, 2008

The Quileute SMA will open to state fishers at 8:00 AM May 1, 2008.

The Quileute SMA will be open to non-treaty fishers subject to the following restrictions: a vessel may use, maintain, operate, or control no more than 100 pots within the area. Any individual that intends to fish in this area from May 1 through September 15, 2008 must notify the Department 24 hours in advance of setting any gear. This notice must include the following information: name of person controlling the gear; license number, vessel name; the amount of gear being deployed; and the buoy brand identification data. This notice must be given by one of the following three means:

1. Fax transmission to Brandon Bryant at: 360-664-0689;
2. E-mail to: bryanblb@dfw.wa.gov; or
3. Telephone call to: Brandon Bryant at 360-249-4628, Extension 229.

Further, if an individual has provided the Department with a notice of intent to set gear and later decides not to deploy gear, a notice to that affect should be given by one of the three means listed above.

The Quileute SMA is described as the area from Cape Johnson to Destruction Island shoreward of a line approximating 30 fathoms according to the following points.

  • Northeast Corner; Cape Johnson, 47°58.00 - 124°40.40
  • Northwest Corner; 47°58.00 - 124°49.00
  • Southwest Corner; 47°40.50 - 124°40.00
  • Southeast Corner; Destruction Island, 47°40.50 - 124°24.43
