Stakeholder Meetings

Welcome to the WDFW Steelhead Management Plan Stakeholder Home Page

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife recognizes the important role of our stakeholders in the development of the steelhead management plan. In July 2006, WDFW established a small "ad hoc" stakeholder group consisting of members from the Steelhead and Cutthroat Policy Advisory Group. This group represents recommendations from a diverse group of interest including, but not limited to, the Wild Steelhead Coalition, Federation of Fly Fishers, and Southwest Washington Anglers. This ad hoc stakeholder group further expanded to include other interested parties such as representatives from Washington Trout, the Hatchery Scientific Review Group (HSRG), and the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission (NWIFC). Stakeholders typically meet monthly to discuss issues relating to the development of a steelhead management plan.

Throughout public meetings from July 2006 to April 2007, additional interested stakeholders were included in the steelhead stakeholder group. The purpose of the "ad hoc" stakeholder group was for the Department to receive regular public input as the draft SSMP was developed. During the monthly steelhead meetings with departmental staff, stakeholders were authorized and encouraged to give presentations, suggests pertinent agenda topics, provide materials for departmental review, and set future meeting dates.

All public input from the stakeholder meetings, SEPA scoping process, and testimony given at the February 2, 2008 Fish and Wildlife (FWC) meeting in Olympia, WA, was reviewed by departmental staff and incorporated, where appropriate, in the updated SSMP (Appendix A) in the FEIS release.

WDFW expects to complete the DRAFT Statewide Steelhead Management Plan by March 2008, pending FWC adoption.
