Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife What You Can Do To Save Washington's Wild Salmon

Washington's citizens have been very clear: they say in public opinion surveys and community meetings that they are concerned about the state's rapidly declining populations of wild salmon.

This trend can be reversed by people who are willing to work together for a common goal. As the state-wide effort to save wild salmon begins, there will be opportunities for this community action. The Department of Fish and Wildlife is recommending the following as first steps:

  1. Stay current on the issue of wild salmon recovery and share your concerns with community, county and state leaders.

  2. Attend one of the public meetings the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife soon will be holding.

  3. Become active in a watershed work group or help form one.

  4. Get involved in landuse issues and understand how local policies will affect the state's fish and wildlife habitat.

  5. Share your experience and ideas with others.
