Single Page Management Recommendations for Washington's
Priority Species: Birds

February 2005

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) introduces Priority Habitat and Species (PHS) single-page management recommendations as a new resource to users of PHS (e.g., private consultants, local planning authorities, etc.). All information contained in these abbreviated publications is also found in the full-version of the PHS management recommendations. Single-page PHS, however, was developed to simplify the application of our PHS recommendations. Where possible, WDFW has also shown how some recommendations that were presented in the full-version PHS can be applied at various planning scales in the single-page PHS accounts (e.g., forest practice vs. subdivision vs. individual parcel).

All PHS publications are reviewed by WDFW biologists as well as outside species and habitat experts to maintain scientific accuracy and credibility. In addition to this level of review, single-page PHS recommendations have the added benefit of review by actual users of PHS. This additional level of review helps ensure that the recommendations answer the types of questions that are important to our readers.

The single-pagers presented below represent the first of this new series. Additional single-page accounts will be developed based on user feedback. All questions and comments are welcome. Please submit your feedback to Jeff Azerrad at azerrjma@dfw.wa.gov.
