SEPA Determination of Significance / Scoping
Grandy Creek Steelhead Fishing Enhancement Project

The Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has received direction and funding from the State Legislature for the 2001-03 biennium to 'construct a capture and acclimation pond at Grandy Creek' on the Skagit River. The appropriation is for $300,000, along with authority to spend an additional $300,000 if a local entity were to contribute to the acclimation pond project. At this time, no non-State funding exists.

Due to possible significant environmental impacts of the project, WDFW will develop an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project. The intent of the EIS is to ensure that environmental amenities and values will be given appropriate consideration in decision making along with economic and technical considerations. The development of the EIS provides a forum for the public and government agencies to comment on the proposal so that changes may be made during the planning phase before the project begins.

The EIS development starts with a Scoping Period which includes a public meeting. The meeting will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, Monday, July 1, 2002. The location is Hearing Room 'C' of the Skagit County Administration Building, 700 South 2nd Street, Mt. Vernon (at the corner of 2nd and Kincaid).

Verbal comments in the scoping period will be taken at the public meeting. Written comments can be sent to :
