Washington Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Habitat Conservation Plans

Input and participation from other government agencies, tribes, and other interested parties is key to the successful development and eventual implementation of a HCP. As such public involvement was the first aspect of the project that WDFW initiated. WDFW formulated a comprehensive strategy to guide public involvement throughout HCP development.

Below are a number of ways to be involved in the HCP process.

Public Meetings

WDFW held a series of public meetings across the state to introduce the Wildlife Area HCP effort and receive early public input. The meetings were fairly well attended and provided a good starting point for getting interested parties involved in the planning process. The presentation used at the public meetings and a summary of the input received can be downloaded below.

Tribal Involvement

WDFW is committed to engaging the tribes of Washington, as well as tribes outside Washington with treaty rights in the state, on a government-to-government level throughout development of the HCPs. We have begun a dialogue and will continue to collaborate on technical and policy aspects of the WLA HCP.

Other public involvement opportunities

WDFW will engage existing stakeholder groups in the development of the HCP, including each of the Wildlife Area’s Citizen Advisory Groups (CAGs) and the Agency’s Lands Management, Wildlife Diversity and Game Management Advisory Councils. For more information on how you can participate in these groups, please contact Jennifer Quan, Wildlife Areas HCP project coordinator, at (360) 902-2508

Comments, Newsletters, Updates, etc.
