Master Hunter Written Exam Schedule

Advance scheduling is required for all Master Hunter exams. The written exam is not available online. Timed tests are administered at either the Olympia headquarters or a regional WDFW office. In some cases the Master Hunter Program Coordinator may arrange for a local Certified Hunter Education Instructor to proctor the test. Some members of the Master Hunter Advisory Group are also serving as Test Proctors.

The passing score on the written exam is 80% -- meaning a “B” or higher.

Instructions for Persons Taking the Test

  • Make and confirm arrangements with the test proctor well in advance.
  • Must present photo ID upon arrival at the test site (driver’s license, student ID, or equivalent).
  • May not bring any electronic device, especially cell phones, into the test room.
  • May not bring any notes, pamphlets, or other study materials into the test room.
  • Must bring #2 lead pencils and an eraser.
  • Must bring or know their WILD Hunting/Fishing License ID number to record on the test answer sheet.
  • The test will be strictly timed at 45 minutes.
  • Persons who are not successful in passing the test may retake the test after a 30-day waiting period.
  • Persons caught cheating on the test will be disqualified for the current year but may reapply to the Master Hunter program during the next open enrollment period.

Scheduled Master Hunter Testing

Clark County

  • WDFW Regional Office located at 2108 Grand Blvd., Vancouver. Tests will be offered on the following Thursday evenings: July 17th, July 24th, August 7th, and August 21st. Test sessions will begin at 5:00 PM on each date. To register, call the Region Five WDFW Office at (360) 696-6211.

Chelan County

  • Chelan County. Master Hunter tests will be proctored in Wenatchee on July 15th, July 31st, August 12th, and August 26th beginning promptly at 6:30 PM each date. The testing location is the Wenatchee Regional Library located at 310 Douglas Street. Space is limited to 12 people, so pre-registration is required. Grant County

  • WDFW Regional Office Annex located at 1550 Alder Street NW, Ephrata, on first and third Monday’s of each month beginning promptly at 6:00 PM. To register, call the Region Two WDFW Office at (509) 754-4624.

King County

  • George Coulbourn, member of the Master Hunter Advisory Group, will proctor the Master Hunter written test at 7:15 PM on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at the Black Diamond Community Center. Contact Mr. Coulbourn at georgeic@verizon.net to reserve your space. The Black Diamond Community Center is located on the Westside of the SR 169 in Black Diamond. It is in the small shopping center complex north of the intersection of Roberts Drive and Hobart Road with SR 169. SR 169 is the Maple Valley-Black Diamond-Enumclaw Highway, running from I-405 to SR 410. Applicants are to arrive no later than 7:00 PM for orientation prior to the test. Applicants will have 45 minutes to complete the test. Late arrivals will not be given additional time.

Lewis County

  • Tests will be proctored at the St. Urban Grange in Winlock on the evenings of July 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th. On each evening, a different testing session will begin promptly at 6:00PM, 7:00PM, and 8:00PM. Directions to the St. Urban Grange: Take Exit 68 off I-5 (northbound turn left, and southbound turn right) and go 0.4 miles to four-way stop, turn left on N. Military Road and go 2 miles to Sargent Road. The grange is on the NW corner of intersection on the right. To register, contact Arlie Champ at (360) 748-0324, arlie-z-champ@msn.com .
  • Tests will be proctored at the Onalaska Middle School on the evenings of July 29th, 30th, and 31st. On each evening a different testing session will begin promptly at 6:00PM, 7:00PM, and 8:00PM. Directions to the Onalaska Middle School: Take Exit 71 off I-5 (northbound turn right, and southbound turn left) on Highway 508, go 8.1 miles, turn left on Carlisle Avenue, go 0.4 miles and the Onalaska Middle School is on the left. Snohomish County

  • Marysville Rifle Club on second and fourth Thursdays of June (12th and 26th), July (10th and 24th), August (14th and 28th) and September (11th and 25th). Tests will begin promptly at 7:00 PM each scheduled evening. Directions can be obtained via marysvillerifleclub.org. To register, call the Region Four WDFW Office at (425) 775-1311.

Spokane County

  • Tests will be proctored at the Spokane Region One Office beginning promptly at 1:00 PM on the following dates: June 11 and 25; July 16 and 30; August 6 and 20; September 10 and 24, and October 1 and 22. The Regional Office is located at 2315 North Discovery Place, Spokane Valley. To register, please call the Region One WDFW Office at (509) 892-1001.
  • Tests will be proctored at the Spokane Gun Club beginning at 7:00 PM on the following dates: June 28, July 25, August 8, August 29, September 19, and October 24. The Spokane Gun Club is located at 19615 East Sprague Avenue, Greenacres. Specific directions may be found at http://www.spokanegunclub.org. A maximum of 36 candidates will be accepted for each testing date. You must register in order to take the examination at H9unter6ed@aol.com or by calling Larry Stansbury at (509) 924-4726 or Mike Britton at (509) 922-1494. DO NOT call the Spokane Gun Club.

Thurston County

  • Tests will be proctored every Tuesday of the week beginning promptly at 9:00AM at the WDFW Olympia Print Shop/Warehouse located at 516 North Washington Street. To register call the Olympia Office at (360) 902-8412.
  • Tests will be proctored every second Friday of each month beginning promptly at 7:00PM at the WDFW Olympia Print Shop/Warehouse located at 516 North Washington Street. To register call the Olympia Office at (360) 902-8412.

Yakima County

  • Tests will be proctored at the Yakima Region Three WDFW Office on June 27, July 25th, August 1st, August 22nd, September 5th, September 26th, October 17th, November 21st, and December 19th, all beginning promptly at 3:30 PM. The Regional Office is located at 1701 South 24th Avenue, Yakima. To register, please call Bill Madison at (509) 225-6737, madisonsmb@msn.com .
  • Tests will be proctored at the Yakima Valley Regional Library on July 1st and July 15th, and August 5th and August 19th , beginning promptly at 7:00 PM each date. Testing will occur in the basement meeting room. The Yakima Regional Library is located at the corner of 102 North 3rd Street and A Street in down town Yakima.
