2012 Hunting Forecasts by District
District biologists have provided hunting forecasts for their district based on surveys and field work.

2011 Waterfowl Hunting Results by District     Waterfowl

District 1

Waterfowl

Ducks
Last year’s duck harvest was up 34 percent from 2010 in Pend Oreille County and 115 percent in Stevens County, resulting in a District 1 duck harvest of over 8,500 birds.

Geese
Ferry County had the distinction of being the only county in Washington to produce more geese than ducks during the 2011 waterfowl season (449 geese, 245 ducks). All-tolled, the District 1 Canada goose harvest was 1,940 birds.

District 2

Waterfowl

Ducks
Duck hunters harvested 12,655 birds in District 2 last year. The county-by-county breakdown was: Lincoln County, 3,511; Spokane County, 4,051; Whitman County, 5,093. The duck harvest was down 44 percent from 2010 in Spokane County, up 51 percent and 18 percent in Whitman and Lincoln counties, respectively.

Geese
District 2 goose hunters harvested 4,971 Canada geese in 2011, with more than 2,900 of them coming from Spokane County. Harvest numbers were on a par with recent years in Spokane and Whitman counties, down considerably in Lincoln County.

District 3

Waterfowl

Ducks
Even though the harvest was down a little from 2010 and from the five-year average, Walla Walla County produced over 17,000 ducks during the 2011 waterfowl season. Hunters in Asotin, Columbia and Garfield counties combined for another 3,548 birds to bring the total District 3 duck harvest to 20,637.

Geese
Although the harvest was lower than that of 2011 and down from the five-year average throughout the district, goose hunters in District 3 managed to bag 2,349 Canada geese during the 2011 waterfowl season.

District 4

Waterfowl

Ducks
The duck harvest has held fairly steady in District 4 over the past few years, and hunters did well in 2011. Benton County produced 26,439 ducks and Franklin County another 21,499 birds for an impressive district total of 47,938.

Geese
The Canada goose harvest was up from 2010 in Benton County and down in Franklin County, so each produced just under 5,100 geese during the 2011 season.

District 5

Waterfowl

Ducks
Grant County was once again the state’s top duck producer, with a harvest of 63,572 birds, while Adams County hunters contributed another 11,048 ducks for a district total of 74,620. The Adams County harvest was up 72 percent from 2010; Grant County’s up 23 percent from last year.

Geese
The Canada goose harvest was also up from last year in both district 5 counties. Grant County hunters took 14,992 geese and Adams County hunters harvested 2,707 of the big birds.

District 6

Waterfowl

Ducks
Duck hunters here enjoyed a 45-percent harvest increase in 2011, bagging 8,011 ducks in Okanogan County.

Geese
District 6 hunters harvested 983 Canada geese in 2011, a 26-percent increase over the 2010 harvest.

District 7

Waterfowl

Ducks
Waterfowl hunters in Chelan and Douglas counties harvested 14,528 ducks   during the 2011 season, reflecting a small increase over the previous season. About 8,740 of those ducks came from Douglas County, 5,790 from Chelan County.

Geese
Goose hunters harvested 480 geese in Chelan County, 602 in Douglas County during the 2011 waterfowl season.

District 8

Waterfowl

Ducks
The duck harvest in Yakima County held steady in 2011, making it the third-best duck-hunting county in Washington, with a harvest of 30,820 birds. Kittitas County hunters took another 5,407 ducks to bring the District 8 total to 36,227.

Geese
The goose harvest was up in Kittitas County, down in Yakima County during the 2011 season, as district hunters took a total of 2,713 geese.

District 9

Waterfowl

Ducks
District 9 hunters took 5,576 ducks last year, as the harvest increased by 63 percent in Skamania County and decreased by seven percent in Skamania County from 2010 to 2011.

Geese
Goose hunters harvested 417 birds in Klickitat County and 408 in Skamania County for a district total of 825 geese.

District 10

Waterfowl

Ducks
Duck hunters harvested over 12,000 birds in both Clark and Lewis counties as District 10 produced an impressive 33,666 ducks during the 2011 season.

Geese
The goose harvest increased from 2010 in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties, decreased in Clark and Lewis counties, as District 10 hunters harvested 4,270 Canada geese during the 2011 season.

District 11

Waterfowl

Ducks
The duck harvest was down about 10 percent from 2010 in both Pierce and Thurston counties, but up from the five-year average, as hunters bagged 19,349 ducks in District 11 last season. Pierce County produced about 54 percent of he total harvest.

Geese
Hunters bagged 980 geese in Thurston County, 880 in Pierce County, for District 11 total of 1,860 birds.

District 12

Waterfowl

Ducks
The 2011 King County duck harvest was up 58 percent from 2010 and 17 percent over the five-year average, as hunters bagged 8,580 birds.

Geese
The 2011 Canada goose harvest in District 12 was 665 birds; more than quadruple the 2010 harvest and twice the five-year average.

District 13

Waterfowl

Ducks
The duck harvest in Snohomish County increased 26 percent from 2010 to 2011, as hunters bagged 26,197 ducks during the past season. Island County hunters added 4,310 birds, bringing the District 13 total to 30,507 birds.

Geese
Snohomish County hunters enjoyed a 347-percent increase in their goose harvest from 2010 to 2011, taking nearly 3,700 birds for the season. Island County hunters added 318 geese to the district total.

District 14

Waterfowl

Ducks
Skagit County was the state’s second-best duck producer in 2011. Hunters there took 49,702 ducks, with Whatcom County adding 24,195 birds and San Juan County another 956, for a District 14 total harvest of 74,853. The Skagit County harvest was up 22 percent from 2010, Whatcom County’s up 39 percent.

Geese
The 2011 District 14 goose harvest was 7,829 birds, with nearly 6,400 of those geese harvested in Skagit County.

District 15

Waterfowl

Ducks
The duck harvest was up 67 percent in Mason County last year, waterfowl hunters took 5,858 ducks in District 15. The final tally was 4,745 (81 percent) from Mason County, 1,113 (19 percent) from Kitsap County.

Geese
The goose harvest was up from 2010 in both Kitsap and Mason counties, but the season total was only 181 birds in District 15.

District 16

Waterfowl

Ducks
Duck hunters harvested just under 11,000 birds in District 16 last season, 8,161 (74 percent) of them in Clallam County. The harvest was up from 2010 in Jefferson County, where hunters bagged 2,821 ducks.

Geese
Goose hunters in District 16 harvested 675 birds during the 2011 waterfowl season.

District 17

Waterfowl

Ducks
The harvest was up 22 percent from 2010 in Grays Harbor County, down 12 percent in Pacific County, as District 17 hunters bagged 23,758 ducks during the 2011 waterfowl season. Waterfowl hunting in District 17 occurs from tidal lands in Gray’s Harbor and Willapa Bay upland into the major river drainages and inland lakes.

Geese
The goose harvest was down from 2010 in both Grays Harbor and Pacific counties, but hunters managed to bag 2,349 geese in District 17 during the 2011 season. During the September early goose season hunter’s harvested 175 geese which was down 22% from 2010.
