The 1080-acre Tunk Valley Wildlife Area is located approximately 12 miles to the northeast of Omak in Okanogan County. Tunk Valley is approximately 50 miles south of the Canadian Border and 100 miles north of Wenatchee.
The area is managed primarily to protecting critical sharp-tailed grouse habitat. There is one inactive lek (grouse dancing ground) documented on the area and an active lek approximately one-half mile to the east on private property. The area also supports mule deer, ruffed grouse, quail, and gray partridge as well as many non-game species.
The majority of the area can be classified as shrub-steppe although much of the area was agricultural lands. Small conifer stands exist on the steep north slopes in the center of the property and healthy stands of riparian shrubs are present along Tunk Creek and some deep draws.
Deer hunting is very popular in the area, and wildlife viewing opportunities also exist.
