Ferruginous hawk winter habitat, migration and survival

Species concerned: Ferruginous hawk.

Investigator: Jim Watson, Science Division, Wildlife Program.

Purpose of research: To learn details about ferruginous hawks, including their wintering areas, movements, migration and survival rates.

Geographic area: Southcentral Washington. The project became a prototype for an international study in 2003 that includes study areas in Canada, Mexico, and Wyoming.

Timeframe of study: Spring 1999 through spring 2003. International study, spring 2003 through spring 2007.
