Pygmy rabbit recovery

Species concerned: Columbia Basin pygmy rabbits.

Lead Investigator: Kristin Mansfield DVM, Science Division, Wildlife Program.

Purpose of research: Coordination of research and management of health issues affecting endangered Columbia Basin pygmy rabbit recovery in captivity and in the wild.

Geographic area: Captive breeding facilities at Washington State University, Oregon Zoo, and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park; and historic pygmy rabbit range in eastern Washington.

Timeframe of study: This is the third year of Columbia Basin pygmy rabbit captive breeding efforts. Health research and management is expected to continue until the species is fully recovered.

Joint partners: Washington State University, Oregon Zoo, and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park.

Funding: Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
