Dear Director Koenings,

As you may be aware, a charterboat named the "Lady Dee" was boarded at sea on Sunday, July 9th, off Westport. Numerous fishery violations were discovered and the vessel was seized by WDFW enforcement.

My purpose in writing is to inform you that;

  1. This vessel is not a member of our Association and has not been for a number of years.

  2. Our Association is dedicated to a high standard with regard to fishery management and had this vessel been a member it would be subject to expulsion per our bylaws.

The past several years have been economically difficult for our fleet. We put a tremendous amount of effort annually into promoting reasonable fishery regulations that are both resource and fisher friendly. We abhor fishery violations that flagrantly violate the spirit of good fishery management. We know that your enforcement budget is not as much as it should be and we applaud the efforts and hard work of your enforcement division.

Sincerely yours,

Mark Cedergreen
Executive Director
Westport Charterboat Association
